Drives
Prerequisites

Access the Drives from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
View All Drives Charts in the Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Scroll down under Charts subsection at the bottom.
- View drive types, formats, states, teams, projects and sizes charts as necessary.
View Details About a Drive in Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive to view basic information.
- Click the View button in the top right panel.
- In the left panel, view the drive name, project, team, format, mounting options, capacity, attachment, owner, backup, creation date, ID, shared users and VMs.
Create a New Drive
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Click the Create new drive button in the top panel.
- In the pop-up, enter the drive name, capacity, format, drive owner, team, optional project, optional drive owner, team, project, realm and type.
- Click Create.
Create a Project-Tagged Drive
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Click the Create new drive button in the top panel.
- In the pop-up, enter the drive name, format, and team.
- Select the project to tag the drive, optional drive owner, realm, capacity and type.
- Click Create.

When creating a new drive for a project-tagged VM, the project tagging the VM is locked to the drive to ensure compatibility with the VM.
Import an External Drive from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Click the Import external drive button in the top panel.
- In the pop-up, click the Load file or paste the manifest file produced by
ticrypt-driveimport
. - Find the file in your local machine.
- Click Open to load the file.
- View drive name, OS, path, format, capacity, owner, realm and team.
- Click Import.
Create an External Drive from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Click the Create external drive button in the top right panel.
- In the pop-up, enter the external drive user, name, capacity, realm, team, and optional project.
- Click Cut-and-paste config to copy the external drive configuration to the clipboard or click Download config to download the external drive configuration locally.

- External drives are not displayed in the drive list. Their creation action is in the logs.
- The role of Cut-and-paste config command is to maintain a clean clipboard.
Share a Drive with Other User(s) from Management
bulk-action
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive to share.
- Click the Share button in the top right panel.
- In the prompt, click the Share with a user button on the right.
- Enter and select the user name(s) by name or email to share the drive with.
- Once selected, click Share.
- Click Close to exit the prompt.

Drives may be shared once they are formatted and attached to a virtual machine upon creation.
caution
- You must own the drive to share it with other users.
- As the drive owner, you can share a drive either as read-only or with full access (read-write).
Give Full Drive Access to a User from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive to give full access.
- Click the Share button in the top right panel.
- In the prompt, filter the shared user by name or email.
- Next, select Full-access for the shared user under the Mode column.
- Once done, click Close.

Giving full drive access means the user can do anything with the data on the drive.
Give Read-Only Drive Access to a User from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive to give read-only access.
- Click the Share button in the top right panel.
- In the prompt, filter the shared user by name or email.
- Next, select Read-Only for the shared user under the Mode column.
- Once done, click Close.
Remove Drive Access from a User from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive to remove user access.
- Click the Share button in the top right panel.
- In the prompt, filter the users by name or email.
- Click the Delete button by the user you want to remove drive access.
- Once done, click Close.
note
You can remove multiple users' access from a drive using the same setup.
Edit a Drive’s Name or Team in Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive whose name or team you want to edit.
- Click the Edit button in the top right panel.
- In the pop-up, under Name subsection, enter the new drive name.
- Alternatively, under Team subsection, enter the new team name.
- Click Update.
Set Up a Drive for Applications and Databases Storage from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive to set up applications and databases storage.
- Click the Edit button in the top right panel.
- In the pop-up, click Advanced Options.
- Under the No permission management subsection, select Enable.
- Click Update.
Set Up a Cache Strategy for a Drive from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive for which you want to set up a cache strategy.
- Click the Edit button in the top right panel.
- In the pop-up, click Advanced Options.
- In the Cache strategy subsection, select default, none, writethrough, writeback or directsync as necessary.
- Click Update.
Set Up an IO Strategy for a Drive from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive to set up IO strategy.
- Click the Edit button in the top right panel.
- In the pop-up, click Advanced Options.
- In the IO strategy subsection, select default, threads, or native as necessary.
- Click Update.
Change Project in a Drive from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive whose project you want to change.
- Click the Change project button in the top right panel.
- In the pop-up, select the project to tag the drive.
- Click Classify.
Forcefully Change Project in a Drive from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive whose project you want to change.
- Click the Change project button in the top right panel.
- In the pop-up, tick Use my permission to override rules, re-tag resources with any visible project, regardless of current project relations.
- Select the project to tag the drive.
- Click Force change with admin privilege.
note
Only users with admin or super-admin roles can perform this action.
Remove Project from a Drive in Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the tagged drive from which you want to remove the project.
- Click the Change project button in the top right panel.
- In the pop-up, select No project (unlocked) to remove project from drive.
- Click Declassify.
note
A declassified project unlocks the drive for all shared users, irrespective of their project membership.
Migrate Drive to a Different Libvirt Storage Pool from Management
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive to migrate.
- Click the Migrate Drive button in the top right panel.
- In the pop-up, select the new storage pool for migration.
- View the drive format, capacity, creation date, team, project, owner, and state.
- Click Migrate.
Bulk Email All Drive Users from Management

- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive(s) for which you want to send a bulk email to users.
- In the left panel, click the Open Full Menu button in the top right panel.
- Select Bulk Email.
- In the pop-up, click Copy to copy the emails or click Download to download the emails.
- Once done, click Close.
note
Tick the Prefer contact email? to use the email registered upon user account creation.
Transfer Ownership of a Drive to a Different User from Management

- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive(s) whose ownership you want to transfer.
- In the left panel, click the Open Full Menu button in the top right panel.
- Select Transfer Ownership.
- In the pop-up, select the user to transfer ownership to.
- View drive format, capacity, creation date, team, project, owner and state.
- Click Transfer Ownership.
Unshare the Drive from Everyone Else from Management

- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive(s) you want to unshare from everyone else.
- In the left panel, click the Open Full Menu button in the top right panel.
- Select Unshare from everyone else.
Delete a Drive from Management

Method one
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the Drives in the left panel.
- Select the drive(s) to delete.
- Click the Open Full Menu button in the top center panel.
- Click Delete.
- In the prompt, tick the drive name(s) and type "Confirm" in the field bellow.
- Click Delete Drive(s).
Method two
- Go to the Management icon in the top left taskbar.
- Navigate to the Virtual Machines section.
- Click the VM Configurations in the left panel.
- Select the Stopped VM Configuration to delete its drive(s).
- Click the Open Full Menu button in the top center panel.
- Select Delete.
- In the prompt, tick the drive name(s) and type "Confirm" in the field bellow.
- Click Delete Drive(s).

- You have to shut down the VM to delete its drive, then you need to unattach the drive.
- You cannot delete a drive that is attached (in use).
- Deleting a drive is a permanent action, and all data on the drive will be lost.
- Bulk deleting drives is a dangerous action for the system. Only super-admins should perform this action in very rare scenarios.
